Climbing demands perfect visual acuity, protection from harsh light, sharp rocks and falling debris, as well as lightweight, securely-fitting, ergonomic eyewear. The unpredictable conditions which make climbing so exhilarating provide a real headache when it comes to getting the optimum lens tint, therefore, interchangeable lenses are a fantastic solution. These are available on prescription sunglasses that work with prescription sunglasses. Directly glazed prescription sunglasses are also available.
Lens colours depend on personal preference as well as the conditions you tend to climb in. But as a rule think yellows for low light, browns and greys for bright light. Whilst mirrored lenses will help in bright conditions, if you are climbing at altitude you should consider Category 4 lenses which are the only answer to the extreme conditions you will find at altitude. Whatever lens and tint combination you choose, the need for tough materials never changes. Therefore, all of our recommended lenses are made out of shatter-proof polycarbonate lenses, with anti-scratch coatings and 100% UV protection.
