Smith Ski Goggles in detail . . .

Smith set the standard for goggles in 1965. That heritage, years of innovation, and commitment to quality persists as they continue to raise the bar today.

Smith has been advancing ski goggle technology for over 40 years, and the brand is now synonymous with innovative, durable, top-quality ski and snowboard goggles. Smith have one of the most envied rosters of athletes in the market, and work with these elite performers to continually innovate and perfect the optics in their goggles. It is not only the technology that is cutting edge - Smith produce some of the most striking ski and snowboard goggles around.

Unusually originating in the ski goggles market rather than sunglasses, Smith's commitment to goggle innovation is unparalleled. In particular, check out the Smith Turbo Fan range of ski goggles, such as the Smith Knowledge and Phenom ski goggles, which feature micro-electronic fans within the goggles themselves.

    Precise Optics

Two essential elements to good vision are visual acuity, the ability to pick out details, and contrast sensitivity, the ability to judge differences in colour and recognise the distance between objects, near and far. Smith engineer all of their lenses through exhaustive research and testing to maximise both for truly enhanced vision.

    Tapered Lens Technology

Smith Goggles - Tapered Lens Technology

“Objects in lens are exactly the same as they appear.” When light passes through a medium it refracts, i.e. changes course. If left uncorrected, this refraction can cause visual distortion and eye fatigue. Smith’s Tapered Lens Technology straightens out the incoming light rays by progressively tapering the lens from the optical center toward the peripheral view. What this means for you is that you see with 100% accuracy and maximum comfort. Available in all Smith Turbo Fan ski and snowbaord goggles, Spherical and Regulator Series snow goggles.

    Hydrophobic Lens Coating

    Smith Goggles - Hydrophocic Coating

A durable hydrophobic coating bonded to all mirrored lenses on Smith ski goggles to reduce smudging and increase scratch resistance.

    Carbonic-X LensSmith Goggles - Carbonic-X Lens

Smith has set the standard in lens performance. All Smith Turbo Fan, Spherical and Regulator Series lenses feature a Carbonic-X outer lens. Each one is individually molded to offer optimum scratch and impact resistance, increased visual acuity and enhanced contrast sensitivity. The inner lens is impregnated with Smith Fog-X lens treatment for increased anti-fog performance. The Smith Carbonic-X lens meets Class 1 optical standards as well as ANSI Z80.3 standards.

    Fog Free Vision

The most common goggle problem is fogging which happens when the inner lens surface cools below the dew point. Humidity inside the goggle doesn't help - the more humid the air, the more potential for fog. Smith goggles use a combination of technological advancements to help prevent lens fogging. Varying levels of goggle ventilation are available within the Smith line. While all Smith snow goggles employ frame ventilation using a breathable foam membrane, Smith also utilise patented fog prevention technologies to actively promote the circulation of air throughout the goggles.

    Turbo Fan Ventilation

    Smith Turbo Fan Goggles

Patented micro-electronic fan in the Smith Turbo Fan Series ski goggles. Turn the fan on when you get to the hill and in the low setting, the Turbo Fan system will run continuously all day long to exhaust moisture from inside the goggle. The high setting can be used to quickly exhaust moisture in extreme conditions. On the low setting the Smith Turbo Fan system can run continuously for up to 50 hours on one AAA battery.

    Regulator Ventilation

    Smith Regulator Goggles

Patented Regulator adjustable lens ventilation system in the Smith Spherical and Regulator Series ski goggles provides added control of airflow through the goggles. Use the open position while stopped in line or on the lift to increase the circulation of dry, fresh air. Close it before descending to prevent tearing.

    Airflow Ventilation

    Smith Airflow Goggles

Featured in Smith Airflow and select Junior Series ski and snowboard goggles, the Airflow lens technology features vents in the brow of the lens that increase the circulation of fresh air to keep the inner lens dry and fog-free. A semi-porous foam filter is positioned behind the vents to prevent snow and moisture from infiltrating the goggle chamber.

Vaporator Lens Technology with Porex Filter

Smith Goggles - Porex Ventilator Technology

Patented Vaporator lens technology leads the industry in thermal lens barriers. Utilizing processes previously reserved for aerospace and medical capacities, our lenses are robotically cut and bonded together with an airtight silicone bead to eliminate lens delamination—the number one cause of between-the-lens fogging.

A revolutionary, micro-porous filter called Porex completes the system. Its composition is structured such that air molecules may pass through the filter while water molecules cannot. By utilising this filter, the thermal lens is allowed to adjust to varying altitudes while preventing moisture from entering the space between the lenses. This is the world’s strongest thermal lens barrier.

    Thermal Lens

    Smith Goggles - Thermal Lens

Two single lenses bonded together with a sealed “dead air” space between them create a thermal barrier that keeps the inner lens warm and dry. Like storm windows—but much more comfortable—this process helps prevent fogging by keeping the inner lens above the dew point.

    Fog X Lens Treatment

Smith Goggles - Fog X Anti Fog

A hydrophilic chemical treatment creates a micro-etched surface on the inner lens to absorb moisture before fog can form. Because Fog-X is a treatment that is actually burned into the lens, it can’t be wiped away like other anti-fog coatings.

Integration begins with a precise fit

The key to ultimate integration starts with the precise fit of the Smith goggles and helmet. Smith helmets are designed to match the curvature of the goggle frame, eliminating “gaper gap” and allowing precise alignment between the helmet AirEvac and the goggle venting systems.

    AirEvac: Maximum Airflow is Crucial

Goggles fog when standard helmets trap warm, moist air in the goggle chamber. The Smith AirEvac ventilation systems generate maximum airflow and pull warm, fog-causing air out of the goggles. The warm air is allowed to exhaust out of the top of the goggle and begin its path through the helmet’s AirEvac system.

    AirEvac 2: Constant Airflow

AirEvac 2 continues to drive the warm air away from the goggle through external vents and internal channels in the EPS liner. Internal airflow can be adjusted through the ski helmet’s Regulator climate control system.

    Perfect Fit

All Smith ski goggles are engineered to work in unison with the wide variety of human facial features. Sculpted around proven headlasts and constructed to provide optimum comfort and seal. It's no wonder why Smith is one of the biggest names in ski and snowboard goggles.

    Articulating Outrigger Positioning System

    Smith Goggles - Articulating Outrigger

A key element in ski goggle/helmet compatibility. Engineered to adjust to a full range of face shapes and sizes, the Articulating Outrigger Positioning System evenly transfers pressure across the brow and nose to ensure a complete seal against the face. When used with a ski helmet, the outrigger articulates, allowing the goggle frame to sink into the helmet face port, ultimately providing a comfortable and consistent fit every time.

    Ergonomic Outrigger System

    Smith Goggles - Ergonomic Outrigger

The Ergonomic Outrigger Positioning System featured on the new Smith Stance Regulator snow goggles is strategically positioned on the frame to draw the strap forward and away from the goggle frame to provide a perfect fit—with and without a helmet—for a wide range of face sizes and shapes. The outriggers evenly distribute pressure on the goggle frame to create a complete seal on the face, for a consistently comfortable fit every time.

    Flexible Urethane Frame

Smith Goggles - Flexible Urethane Frame

Smith goggles use a unique urethane compound, which allows the goggles to conform to individual facial features while maintaining its flexibility in extreme cold temperatures.

    Split V Nose

Smith Goggles - Split V Nose

A Smith innovation that strategically interrupts the urethane in the nose area of the goggle frame to provide a self-adjusting fit.

    Driwix Performance Face Foam

Smith Goggles - Driwix Face Foam

Ultra-plush. Perfect fit. The Smith dual layer DriWix compression-molded face foams seal out the wind and moisture for maximum comfort and performance.

    Technology Woven Strap
