VentilationIf you plan to ski in warm spring conditions and if you tend to work up a sweat, consider a helmet with good ventilation that will provide airflow and thus add to your overall comfort. Non-ventilated helmets restrict airflow and are generally preferable for wet, snowy, or extremely cold conditions. A number of the helmets we offer incorporate adjustable vents, so you can match the conditions. For example, the incredibly popular Smith Variant Brim (right).
Very effective in absorbing impact, as the cell walls in the foam crush on impact and slow the head down gradually. This is found in the vast majority of our ski helmets, and is designed to protect against one hard impact (hence why we recommend replacing your helmet after a crash).
More expensive than EPS foam, EPP is often referred to as multi-impact foam. Whilst EPP is a crushable foam, it has a higher ‘memory’ than EPS which allows it to return to is shape after impact. Even still, we recommend replacing the helmet after a severe blow. EPP can be found on helmets by Sweet Protection.
Found on Bern's Hard Hats, Brock is a new multiple-impact option in action sport head protection. As such it has yet to pass the standards discussed below. Brock foam is lighter weight and more comfortable than regular foam. It is breathable, and allows air to circulate through the foam and out of the lid. It sucks moitsture from your skin, keeping you cool and dry.
Goggle ClipsAll of our helmets have clips on the back of the helmet to accomodate your ski goggles and secure them in place.
All helmets offered by RxSport comply with one of two standard systems:
Helmets cannot offer a 100% guarantee in a high speed or head on collision. However, you can maximise their protection by making sure they fit correctly before use. Skiers or boarders wearing helmets must not consider themselves to be invincible!
