PD-Image.jpgPupil Distance (PD) Guide

The PD or Pupillary Distance is the distance between the centres of your pupils. This isn't a major factor for lower prescription ranges (i.e. in power ranges under 2 dioptres), as usually required for sports eyewear. If you want, we will calculate an average PD for your order, based on your body size and sex, just click on the relevant box. But if you want extra confidence that you are optimising your eyewear, please follow one of the instructions below:

  • Ask the optician who supplied your current glasses for the PD that was used. If the optician gives you two different numbers you have been given both the distance/Reading PD or the Right Eye/Left Eye PD. Please put both figures in the Optician Supplied section of the order form and we will know the relevant figure to use. This is the most accurate choice, so therefore our recommendation.
  • Send us a pair of old glasses you don't use anymore, and we will be able to gauge your PD measurement from these. We will then return them with your completed order.
  • Measure it yourself by printing the instructions provided on one of the following printable PD rulers:

If your prescription contains a power of +/-2.00 or stronger, it is better that the lens centres be set directly in front of your pupils, or if you are intending to use your sports eyewear for driving or road use, we advise that you use one of the above methods. For the best possible results, ask the optician who supplied your last pair of glasses or send us a pair of old glasses.
