Smith designed Trace for roadies unwilling to settle for anything less than the best. This sleek, ultra-light design integrates an impact-absorbing yet fully ventilated Aerocore shell and MIPS technology as standard to cover all the bases for all round road protection. Store your sunglasses in the specially-designed ports on the side of the helmet during those gruelling climbs.
The pinnacle helmet in Smith’s performance road collection is the all new Trace. The Trace features Koroyd, which fully surrounds the helmet providing exceptional protection and works with the internal air channels and open intake and exhaust ports to produce maximum ventilation.
The design philosophy behind Aerocore circulation is to increase airflow and improve temperature regulation, resulting in fog-free vision and improved impact resistance. These goals were achieved through the use of Koroyd, a material that absorbs more energy upon impact when compared to international standards, while enhancing airflow. Aerocore construction allows for more vents to be placed throughout the helmet with no compromise on protection or comfort.
Koroyd's precise and unique thermal welding process leads to a structure with both extremely efficient energy absorption properties. Upon impact, the cores crush in a controlled manner, decelerating the energy from the impact and reducing the final trauma levels.
Thousands of co-polymer extruded tubes thermally welded to create a consistent and fully engineered core. Each Koroyd section is engineered to precise durometer, size, and thickness specifications to provide the greatest impact resistance and consistent presentation.
Koroyd is fully breathable with no compromise on impact performance. The open cell structure allows cool air in while exhausting hot air. This construction integrates with internal channels to create the full Aerocore construction to provide ventilated protection.
Angled impact creates rotational forces. A helmet integrating MIPS creates a sliding layer between the helmet and the head. This allows the helmet's shell to slide relative to the head when hitting the ground.
This reduces the rotational forces exterted on the head, reducing the potential to damage your brain. This diagram shows the potential for MIPS to reduce violent forces on the brain in certain impacts.
Crafted with ease-of-use and superior comfort in mind, the VaporFit fitting system relies on a tried-and-true rotary dial adjustment system integrated with a tuned elastic fit using engineered shapes.
Each VaporFit system has a full 5cm of rotary adjustability. Additionally, the system can be moved up/down or forward/backward at the attachment points. The result is comfort with a personalized, secure fit.
Other Helmet Features
XT2 Anti-Bacterial Performance Lining
The helmet lining boasts excellent moisture-wicking properties to draw sweat away from the head, improving heat exchange and comfort. Interwoven with anti-bacterial silver fibres, the lining is also odour-resistant.
Integrated Skeletal Structure
In addition to the tough In-Mold shell and shock-absorbing EPS liner, the helmet interior is given structural reinforcements to further boost strength, enhancing impact protection and structural integrity.
Aramid Filament Reinforcement
To strengthen the helmet even further, a weave of unbreakable aramid is blended in to the structure. With practically negligible added weight, these Aramid filaments allow impact energy to be dissipated across the entire shell.
Ventilation channels are placed throughout the helmet shell, positioned to maximise airflow through the helmet when on the move, allowing cool air in and exhausting warm air out to boost comfort during exertion.
Ultimate Sunglass Integration
Eyewear and helmets need to integrate first and foremost when worn together. For long climbs or post-ride chats, Smith have integrated an eyewear dock that allows you to easily store your sunglasses back or front-facing.
Ultra-Light Single Layer Webbing
To shave off unnecessary weight an ultra-lightweight single layer of webbing is used on the helmet strap to optimise balance. The webbing is designed to still provide exceptional fitting comfort and security.
